Welcome!

I believe that City residents share a vision of Sacramento as the “most livable city in America.” This means excellent schools and libraries, abundant parks and open spaces, a dynamic Central City and business districts, vibrant arts, sports and culture, and safe, quality tree-lined neighborhoods within walking distance or a transit stop from everything you need. Since joining the Council in 1994, I have worked to achieve this vision with a conservation ethic, using our limited public resources wisely and efficiently to improve quality of life in our neighborhoods, business districts, City and region. The escalating threats from climate change, higher oil prices, terrorism, and a stagnant economy make this conservation ethic more important now than ever before.

As your Councilman, I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished through community partnerships. Pops in the Park is a huge success. We’ve renovated our parks and playgrounds, and created new ones like Sutter’s Landing Park. We’ve achieved 100-year flood protection. We’ve expanded light rail. Midtown has become a really cool place, and Sac State is better connected to the community. And we’ve done it all with balanced budgets, utility rate increases below inflation, and no new taxes.

But we still have unfinished business, protecting our neighborhoods from traffic and development, improving public safety, growing small business, enlivening Downtown and expanding transit. I’m running for reelection to make Sacramento the most livable city in America.

Sincerely,
